Road accidents kill 7

At least seven people were killed and two injured in road accidents across the country yesterday, our correspondents and news agencies report.

In Kishoreganj, two sixth-graders were killed after a tractor hit the bicycle they were on at Lukpur Khanbari area in Karimganj upazila around 9:30am, said police, quoting locals.

The deceased are Mahil Mia, 12, son of Mizanul Haque; and Rajon Mia, 12, son of Mabul Mia. They were students of Behunda High School, according to the law enforcers.

Rajon died on the spot while Mahil sustained critical injuries. Locals took Mahil to Kishoreganj General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

The tractor driver fled the scene, leaving his vehicle. Hearing the news, agitated students and locals went to the spot and torched the tractor, before police brought the situation under control.

Police sent the bodies to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy. A case was lodged.

In Madaripur, two people were killed and two injured after two motorbikes collided at Siddikhola area in Sadar upazila around 11am, said police, quoting locals.

The deceased are Saiful Hawladar, 30, and Manik Bepari, 28.

Saiful died on the spot and the three injured were taken to Madaripur General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared Manik dead.

Police seized the vehicles and sent the bodies to the hospital’s morgue for autopsy.

In Patuakhali, two people were killed on the spot after the motorbike carrying them and a goat skidded off the road at Basak Bazar area in Sadar upazila around 6am, said police.

The deceased are Kashem, 26, and Naim, 27. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to a local hospital for autopsy.

In Brahmanbaria, a schoolboy was killed after a speeding auto-rickshaw hit him while he was crossing the road in front of Uttar Narayanpur Government Primary School in Nabinagar upazila around 11am, said police, quoting locals.

The deceased is Tamim, 6, a first-grader at the school and son of Shahin Mia. After the accident, Tanim was critically injured. Locals took him to a nearby health complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

The body was sent to Brahmanbaria General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
