Road accidents claim three lives

At least three people were killed in road accidents across the country yesterday, according to reports from our correspondents.

In Savar, two people were killed after a Chandra bound truck hit their motorcycle at Shreepur area on Nabinagar–Chandra highway in Ashulia.

The deceased are Sheakh Shadar Ali, 61, and Haider Ali, 28. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. They are yet to track the truck and its driver, said police.

In Chattogram, a young man was killed as a passenger bus and pick-up van collided head-on at Sarkar Hat area in Hathazari upazila.

The deceased is pick-up van driver Md Roni, 23, from Udalia of Hathazari upazila.

Roni was critically injured after the accident and was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where the the on-duty physician declared him dead, said police.

Police seized both the bus and pick-up van but the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.

WOMAN CRUSHED UNDER TRAIN

A woman was crushed under the wheels of a train at Pashuhat in Kushtia’s Mirpur upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB. The deceased is Kulsum, 45, of Pabna.

Ruhul Amin, station officer of Mirpur Fire Service and Civil Defense, said the accident took place around 7:30am when Khulna-bound “Sagardari Express” from Ishwardi hit Kulsum while she and her husband were walking on the rail bridge. She died on the spot.
