Road accidents claim eight lives in two days

At least eight people were killed and 28 injured in road accidents across the country in the last two days, according to our correspondents and news agencies. 

In Rangpur, 55-year-old Adel Badsha man was killed after a bus hit him on Dinajpur-Rangpur highway near Taraganj upazila yesterday.

Witnesses said he was crossing the road when a bus hit him, leaving him critically hurt. He succumbed to his injuries on the way to a local health complex.

In Pabna, two youths were killed when a motorbike rider lost control of his vehicle and hit a three-wheeler at Chandmari of district headquarters yesterday.

Md Hafez Walid, 25, and his nephew Shanto Hossain, 20, were on the motorbike, said police.

They were taken to Pabna General Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared them dead.

In Dhaka, a man was killed and three others were injured when a bus hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Mohammadpur Beribadh area yesterday, reports UNB.

The deceased is Tofazzal Hossain, 60, an auto-rickshaw driver from Bhola’s Borhanuddin upazila.

Police said the accident took place around 4:30am when a bus rammed the auto-rickshaw heading towards Dhanmondi.

The driver and three passengers were injured in the accident.

Later, they were taken to a local hospital where doctors pronounced Tofazzal dead around 6am.

In Naogaon, three motorcyclists were killed after a truck hit a motorbike they were riding at Mahishbathan Bazar in Mahadebpur upazila on Tuesday, the news agency adds.

The deceased are Sharif Hossain, 19, Ruhani Islam, 19, and Sagar Hossain, 19. The accident took place around 10pm when a truck rammed the motorbike carrying the three. The victims were killed on the spot, said police.

Police later retrieved the bodies and handed them over to their families.

Meanwhile in Kushtia, one person was killed and 25 others injured as a bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Khoksha upazila of the district yesterday noon, reports BSS.

The deceased was identified as Mosaddek Ali Sheikh, 36, a passenger of the bus and resident of Kamlapur area in the upazila. He was an employee of Bangladesh Naval Aviation, said police. Mosaddek died on the spot.

The accident took place in Shimulia Kuthibari area on Kushtia-Rajbari road as the bus driver lost his control over the vehicle, said ABM Mehedi Masud, officer-in-charge of Khoksha Police Station, quoting witnesses.

The injured passengers were given primary treatment at a local hospital.
