Rickshaw-van driver found killed in Savar

Unidentified criminals killed a battery-run rickshaw-van driver and allegedly took away his vehicle and phone in Ashulia of Savar yesterday.

The deceased -- Mofazzal Hossen (40), hailed from Aranagar in Damurhat upazila of Naogaon.

Osman Goni, one of his cousins, said Mofazzal went out of his house in Ashulia with his vehicle around 4am and did not return.

"Criminals killed my cousin to snatch his vehicle and belongings; those remain missing," he said.

Locals noticed his bloodstained body lying next a UP member's house at Kaichabari in Ashulia in the morning.

On information from them, police recovered the body around 9am and sent it to Shaheed Shurawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

Jashim Uddin, a sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station, who visited the spot and prepared a primary inquest report, told The Daily Star that injury marks were found on the victim's head and nose.

Criminals might have killed him before snatching his vehicle and phone, said the SI. Filing of a case was underway, he added.
