Rice traders fined for overpricing

A mobile court of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection on Monday fined three rice traders for selling rice at higher prices in Manikganj's Sadar, Harirampur, and Singair upazilas.

Assistant Director of the body's district office Asaduzzaman Rumel conducted drives at more than a hundred shops of Balirtek Bazar, Kanthapara, Balara Bazar, Dhalla and Basta Bazar.

He said he fined three stores Tk 9,000 and warned other stores for hiking prices. During the operation, 350kg rice were sold at a fair price to the buyers, the official said, adding that the operation will continue.
