Release Amir Khasru immediately

Demand pro-BNP CU teachers

Pro-BNP teachers of Chittagong University yesterday demanded immediate release of party leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury.

A Chattogram court on October 21 sent Khasru to jail after he surrendered on completion of his six weeks' bail in a case filed under the ICT Act and Special Powers Act.

To press the demand, they issued a statement signed by Prof Al Amin, president of CU unit of Jatiyatabadi Shikkhak Forum; and Prof SM Nasrul Kadir, general secretary of the unit.

The government is conspiring to deprive people of their right to vote, freedom of speech, rule of law and social justice, says the statement.

They have arrested BNP leaders and implicated them in “false and fabricated cases” because they are conducting movement to restore democracy, it adds.

Terming the present government “illegal”, the statement further says that Khasru was sent to jail “as part of the government's blueprint”.

“The ongoing movement cannot be stopped through repression and influence,” it also says. People will realise their demands through tough movements, the statement reads.

In another statement, the pro-BNP teachers demanded immediate release of BNP Chattogram city unit General Secretary Abul Hashem Bakkar and Central Organising Secretary Mahabubur Rahman Shamim.
