Razia Begum no more

Razia Begum, wife of late Bengal Civil Service officer Ahmadullah, passed away on Sunday at the capital’s United Hospital.

Her father, late Momtazuddin Ahmad, was the union board president. Though primarily schooled at home, she authored two books in her late 70s, says a press release.

Her first book -- “Smitir Janala” -- chronicled her life from the 1930s to 1971 as the wife of a government official in various districts of East and West Bengal.

Her second book “Diary’r Pata Theke” is a travelogue of her visits to various countries with her children from 1974 to 2005. She also published poems and articles in magazines.

She left behind three daughters -- Roushan Jahan, Dr Rounaq Jahan and Nilufar Ahmad; three sons -- Dr Ahmad Kabir, Dr Ahmad Karim and Ahmad Munir; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A doa-mahfil will be held tomorrow after Asr prayers at Gulshan Society Jame Masjid. Relatives and friends are requested to attend the programme.
