Ramna DC’s son found dead

Police suspect he shot himself with his father’s pistol

Son of a police officer died, allegedly after shooting himself with his father’s licensed pistol, in Dhaka’s Azimpur area early yesterday.

Sadik Bin Sazzad, a second year student at Dhaka City College, was the eldest among three children of Sazzadur Rahman, deputy commissioner (Ramna Division) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

KM Ashraf Uddin, officer-in-charge of Lalbagh Police Station, suspected that Sadik shot himself in the head when family members were asleep at their flat in Azimpur Government Quarter.

Family members broke open the door of Sadik’s room which was locked from inside around 8:15am, as he did not respond to repeated knocks by his tutor. The pistol was found next to the body, in a pool of blood, on the bed, the OC said.

Quoting family members, the OC said Sadik on Sunday night sent some of his old photographs to his father’s phone and asked him to go through them in free time. He also shared the password of his hard disk with his father.

Sadik was awake till 2am yesterday with his father. They later went to their respective bedrooms. None could hear any sound of gunshot, said Sadik’s uncle Masud Hossain Jahangir. Police sent the body to Dhaka Medical College morgue. An autopsy found Sadik died of bullet injuries in the head.

“We recovered a bullet from the left side of his head. No other injury marks were found,” said Sohel Mahmud, head of forensic medicine department at DMCH.
