Rajshahi education institutions get 'Bangabandhu Corner'

The Rajshahi district administration has inaugurated Bangabandhu Corner at the libraries of all 1,985 educational institutions across the district yesterday.

The corners contain portraits and books on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, his family members and the national heroes.

The inaugural ceremony was held at Helenabad Government Girls High School in the city with Mayor AHM Khairuzzman Liton attending it as chief guest.

Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader, who presided over the ceremony, said the corner would offer an opportunity for the children to learn the true history of the country and Liberation War.

During his speech, Mayor Liton randomly asked the students a few questions on Bangabandhu and awarded seven of them instantly for correct answers.

Liton asked about the date and place of Bangabandhu's call for the Liberation War, names of four national heroes and three names of Bangabandhu's family members.

The winning students are sixth grader Ishita Chowdhury, seventh graders Anika Mustarin Moumita and Nur-e-Afsana, and ninth graders Sirajum Munira, Atia Sultana, MZ Momo, and Sadia Haque. They got a prize money of Tk 500 each.

Asked about her reaction, Ishita said, “Getting an award in a competition is encouraging. But it was a surprise because it happened all of a sudden.”

The corners were set up simultaneously at 930 high schools, madrasas, colleges and universities including Rajshahi University, and 1,055 primary schools.
