ACC arrests one over embezzlement of Tk 2 crore

The Anti-Corruption Commission on Monday night arrested the general secretary of Rajshahi city unit of Bangabandhu Parishad, over embezzlement of Tk 2.05 crore.

Ariful Haque Kumar was arrested from his home in Sepoypara area at 9:45pm in connection with a case filed in 2018, when he was the manager of Southeast Bank in the city, said Rajshahi ACC Deputy Director Jahangir Alam.

The ACC official said Kumar was dismissed from his post two years ago. The bank authorities filed a case against him with Rajshahi sessions judge’s court in March 2018 for embezzling the money.

According to the case statement, Kumar sanctioned the money as loan to one Rafiqul Islam, proprietor of Raka Enterprise, by creating false documents, and embezzled the money.

During investigation, ACC found the allegations to be true and filed a charge sheet against him, said Jahangir Alam. During trial, the court issued an arrest warrant for Kumar as he continued to ignore summons, the ACC official said.

Rafiqul, who is also an accused in the case, is on the run, he added.
