Rail minister identifies 14 reasons for recent accidents

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan yesterday in parliament identified at least 14 reasons -- including lack of maintenance of railway tracks, coaches and bridges, and unregulated movement of vehicles -- for the recent rail accidents.

The other reasons include malfunction of railway engines, breaking of rail lines, disruption of telephone systems, derailment, disruption of rail movement due to excessive flood and collision between trains.

The minister said this in reply to a query from Workers Party MP Lutfun Nesa Khan.

The minister said the government has taken various initiatives so that railway staff can carry out their responsibilities more consciously.

“Besides, actions are being taken against staffers who were responsible for the train accidents,” the minister also said.
