Rab arrests three with fake notes

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) raided a house used for manufacturing counterfeit notes in Rajshahi city yesterday and arrested three persons with fake Indian currencies worth Rs10 lakh and printing materials.

The arrestees include Rubel Hossain of Rajshahi’s Godagari upazila, who was arrested with fake Indian currencies worth Rs1 crore in Chapainawabganj a year ago, Sayeed Abdullah Al Murad, second-in-command of Rab-5 told reporters.

After securing bail two months ago, Rubel hired two others, rented a house in the city’s Ramchandrapur area and began printing fake notes.

The other arrestees are Jahangir Alam of Natore and Mosaddek Hossain of Chapainawabganj.

The group told Rab that they were printing fake notes to target Bangladeshis who travel to India and traders who smuggle in cattle ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Sayeed said.
