Prof Zia Hyder’s 11th death anniv

Today is the 11th death anniversary of Prof Zia Hyder, a prominent figure in modern theatre of Bangladesh. His anniversary will be observed at his ancestral home in Pabna.

Founder professor of the drama department at Chittagong University, he passed away on this day in 2008.

Prof Hyder was involved in many philanthropic activities, including providing scholarships to financially strained university students.

Through Zia Hyder Trust, his family members have established two educational institutions where over a hundred children who cannot afford to go to school are studying there free of cost.

The schools have chalked out daylong programme marking his death anniversary.

He is also renowned for his books on theatre, and most of them are used as reference books at public universities in Bangladesh.  

Moreover, Prof Hyder worked diligently towards introducing theatre as an academic subject at the university level in Bangladesh.
