Pro-AL panel sweeps DU dean election

Pro-Awami League teachers’ blue panel won the dean’s election of Dhaka University (DU) against BNP-Jamaat backed-teachers’ white panel yesterday.

The blue panel won in nine faculties out of 10. The winning candidates are: Dr Abu Md Delwar Hosain, arts faculty; Dr Tofail Ahmed Chowdhury, science faculty; Dr Shibli Rubayatul Islam, business studies faculty; Dr Sadeka Halim, social science faculty; Dr Md Imdadul Hoque, biological science faculty; Dr SM Abdur Rahman, pharmacy faculty; Nisar Hossain, fine arts; Dr ASM Maksud Kamal (uncontested), earth and environmental science faculty; and Dr Rahmat Ullah (uncontested), law faculty. Dr Md Hasanuzzaman of the white panel won in the engineering and technology faculty.

Following victory, Dr ASM Maksud Kamal said blue panel won the polls as teachers have confidence in the panel that they will carry out development activities on the campus.

White Panel Convener ABM Obaidul Islam said his panel was defeated because the present administration has politically recruited a good number of teachers in last few years.

Voting started at 10am at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.
