Graft Allegations

Prisons DIG Partha denied bail again

A Dhaka court yesterday again rejected a bail petition of Partha Gopal Banik, the suspended deputy inspector general (prisons) of Sylhet division, in connection with a case filed over recovery of Tk 80 lakh from his residence in the capital.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Senior Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka issued the order, after Partha’s lawyer submitted the petition.

The court also directed the investigation officer to submit the probe report of the case by October 28.

On July 29, the same court rejected his bail petition and sent him to jail, after Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) produced the DIG before it and appealed to confine him in jail until investigation is completed.

Before his arrest, ACC Director Mohammad Yousuf quizzed Partha over allegations that he committed irregularities and corruption as DIG (prisons) of Chattogram division.

After interrogation, ACC team accompanied by Partha went to his Green Road residence and recovered the money.
