13 lakh yaba haul in ctg

Prime accused placed on 3-day remand

Ridwan alias Jubayer, a “top yaba trader” and “member of an international drug cartel”, was placed on a three-day remand in a case filed over the seizure of 13 lakh yaba pills in port city’s Halishahar area.

The court of metropolitan magistrate Safi Uddin issued the remand order after Ridwan, 55, was produced before the court with 10 days’ remand prayer, said Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) Kazi Shahabuddin Ahmed of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).

Ridwan was arrested by immigration police from Shah Jalal International Airport on November 7 when he tried to leave the country on a flight to Malaysia.

According to police, Ridwan is “one of the godfathers of yaba trade” in the country and a “member of an international drug cartel”.

The case was filed with Halishahar Police Station on May 4 when police detectives seized 13 lakh yaba pills from a Halishahar house in the city and arrested two of Ridwan’s siblings -- Ashraf Ali, 47 and Mohammad Hasan, 22.
