Ramadan Essentials

Prices will be lower than last year’s: DSCC mayor

Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sayeed Khokon yesterday assured that prices of essentials will not increase during the upcoming Ramadan. Rather, they will remain low compared to last year, he claimed.

The DSCC mayor made the claims while briefing reporters after holding a meeting with leading traders of essential commodities like sugar, pulses, edible oil and flour at Nagar Bhaban.

He said business leaders have informed him that there is sufficient stock of essentials, making it possible to ensure supply even till Puja after Ramadan.

With sufficient supply, prices of essential commodities like sugar, lentils, edible oil and flour will not be increased during Ramadan by any means, he said.

Khokon said all kitchen markets under DSCC will be monitored during Ramadan through mobile courts.

“DSCC will take a zero tolerance policy so that no unscrupulous businessman can increase prices of essentials. The city corporation will take legal action as well,” said Sayeed Khokon.

Among others, Chairman of City Group Fazlur Rahman, Chairman of Meghna Group Mostafa Kamal, Vice-president of Bangladesh Sugar Merchants Association Abul Hasem and President of Bangladesh Edible Oil Wholesale Businessmen Association Golam Moula were present at the meeting.
