Policeman, 5 others killed in road crashes

Six people were killed and eight others injured in road accidents in three districts in the last two days, report our correspondents.

In Rangpur, three passengers of a battery-run three-wheeler were killed and three others injured as the vehicle and a truck collided head-on in Lahirirhat area of Sadar upazila yesterday.

One of the deceased is Badsha Mia, son of Yousuf Ali from Boikunthapur area in the upazila.

The identities of the other deceased could not be ascertained immediately, said Sajedur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.

In Chattogram, an on-duty traffic police constable died as a CNG-run auto-rickshaw hit him on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Baraiyarhat area of Mirsarai upazila on Saturday night.

Nurul Amin, 52, from Feni, was posted in Chattogram district police, said Jorarganj Police Station Sub-Inspector Abed Ali.

He was declared dead at Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex.

In Sirajganj, two people were killed and five others injured as a pickup hit them while they were waiting for a vehicle at Saydabad point near the Bangabandhu bridge yesterday.

The deceased -- Jahangir Hossain, 30, and Shamim Hossain, 32 -- were from Jarila Porabari in Sirajganj Sadar upazila.
