Nayapaltan Clash

Police to interrogate BNP's Nipun, JCD's Ruma

A Dhaka court yesterday directed police to interrogate BNP Executive Committee Member Nipun Roy Chowdhury and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Central Committee Assistant Secretary Arifa Sultana Ruma at the jail gate for a day within ten working days in connection with one of the three cases filed over Nayapaltan clash on November 14.

Metropolitan Magistrate Tofazzal Hossain passed the order after the police produced the duo before the court with a 7-day remand prayer.

Nipun's father Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury and their defence counsels prayed to the court for the duo's bail.

On November 16, another Dhaka court placed Nipun and Ruma on a 5-day remand each in another case. The duo were sent to jail on November 22 after completion of their remand.

At least 20 BNP men and many police officials were injured in the clash that broke out between BNP activists and police in front of the party's Nayapaltan central office on November 14.

Three cases were filed with Paltan Police Station in this connection, accusing 488 leaders and activists of BNP including senior leaders Mirza Abbas and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
