Police chase down mugger in Khilgaon

Police arrested a mugger while fleeing the scene after looting valuables from two rickshaw passengers in the city's Khilgaon area yesterday morning.

The arrestee is Md Rabiul Islam, 35.

Police said one Md Mostafa and his daughter were going to their relative's house at Block-C of Khilgaon on a rickshaw from Kamalapur Railway Station.

When they were near Khilgaon Ansar headquarters at around 7:30am, the mugger, riding a motorbike, showed up and took away their valuables, including cash and mobile phones, at knifepoint, said Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Masudur Rahman.

Hearing screams of the victims, a patrol team of Khilgaon Police Station rushed to the spot and engaged in a hot pursuit, Masudur said.

At one stage, they caught Rabiul and recovered the valuables from his possession, Masud added.

A case was filed with Khilgaon Police Station in connection with the incident.
