Pickup driver beaten to death over parking in Savar

A pickup truck driver was beaten to death allegedly by a workshop owner and his workers following a dispute over parking the vehicle in Savar outside the capital early yesterday.

The driver, Aslam Pathan, 45, kept his pickup in front of Zakir Hossen's workshop beside Dhaka-Aricha highway in Mirzanagar area of Ashulia for three days, said police.

Yesterday, they had an altercation when Aslam rushed to the spot to take his vehicle, Ashulia Police Station Sub-Inspector Bizon Kumar Dash quoted locals as saying.

At one stage, Zakir and two of his workers hit him with iron rods, said the SI.

Aslam, who used to live in Niribili area of Ashulia with his family, was declared dead at a local hospital.

Zakir and the workers have been on the run since the incident, said police officer.

Aslam's wife filed a case with the police station against Zakir and several others, he added.
