Killing of MP's Brother-in-Law

PBI arrests domestic help in Rangamati

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested an indigenous youth from a remote hill in Rangamati early yesterday in connection with a case filed for killing lawmaker MA Latif's brother-in-law Tofayel Ahmed Rafiq.

Joyes Chakma, 25, son of Rangu Chakma from Dhoroni Baper village in Baghaichhari of Rangamati, was a domestic help of 60-year-old Tofayel, said police.

The elderly man was found dead in his residence in Fakirhat of Chattogram on December 14.

Tofayel's son Shahed Asgar Chowdhury filed the case with Bandar Police Station the same day, mentioning Joyes as the prime accused.

Mohammad Iqbal, superintendent of police (SP) of PBI, said the arrestee, during primary interrogation, has confessed to the crime. “He [said that he] killed the man for looting his [Tofayel's] house,” the SP added.
