Panchagarh couple lose lives as microbus hits rickshaw-van

Kaimuddin was pulling his rickshaw-van with his wife Anwara Begum sitting on it. After receiving a loan from an NGO office, the couple was returning to their Kumrar Char village home in Panchagarh. When they reached Proshika intersection, a microbus hit the rickshaw-van from behind.

The accident happened on Debiganj-Domar road in Debiganj upazila around 4pm on Thursday.

Kaimuddin, 45, died on the spot. His 40-year-old spouse was still alive with critical injuries, said Debiganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rabiul Hasan Sarkar.

Locals took Anwara to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex from where she was being transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries on the way, said the OC.

In Thakurgaon, a boy was killed as a truck ran him over at Akhanagar rail crossing in Sadar upazila on Thursday.

Azharul Islam, 12, son of Sadequl Islam from Akhanagar village, was crossing the road. Locals said he was hearing impaired. The driver managed to escape with the vehicle.

In Pirojpur, Al Amin Sheikh, 26, passenger of a bus, died on the spot as the vehicle skidded off the road and overturned on a field in Charkhola village of Nazirpur upazila yesterday.

In another incident, motorcyclist Abdullah Al Sakib, 18, a student of Indurkani Degree College, and Monirul Islam Gazi, 57, a pedestrian, were killed as the motorbike hit the latter in Dakkhin Indurkani village of Indurkani upazila the same day.

Sakib died around 11pm on the way to Dhaka for treatment and Monirul on the way to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

In Savar, an RMG worker was killed as an unidentified vehicle hit him on Nabinagar-Chandra road in Mojarmil area while he was returning home from work on bicycle yesterday, said police.

The deceased was identified as Anis Miah, 40.

Meanwhile, Montu Mollah, 26, a student of Govt Bangla College, was killed as a bus hit his motorcycle on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Boliapur area of Savar.

One of the victim’s friends, who was a pillion, was also injured, said AFM Sayeed, officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station.

In Gaibandha, helper of a bus driver was killed and 10 were injured in a head-on collision between the vehicle and a truck on Rangpur-Bogra highway in Chapriganj area yesterday.

The deceased, Shafiqul Islam, 28, was from Kurigram.

Fire service took the injured to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.
