‘Noble deeds never die’

Speakers here in a memorial programme yesterday (Saturday) said Shamsunnahar Rahman Paran, the late founder of Ghashful, dedicated her life to establish a society based on equality and humanity.

Ghashful organised the memorial programme at Bangabandhu Hall of Chattogram Press Club in the port city to commemorate its founder, who passed away in 2015.

Three personalities were awarded with Paran Rahman Medal for their contribution to the society. They are: Rajia Samad Dalia (social service), Manjulika Chakma (entrepreneur from ethnic communities) and Momena Begum (entrepreneur from grassroots).

Paying tribute to Shamsunnahar, chief guest Prof Dr AF Imam Ali, vice chancellor of Bandarban University, said Shamsunnahar dedicated her whole life to establish a society based on equality and humanity. "Shamsunnahar has not been evaluated by the state properly for her work; I would like to ask the government to confer her with state honours."

Faridur Rahman, director (operations) of Ghashful, said around 70,000 under-privileged families and over four lakh people are being benefitted by this organisation.

"Noble deeds never die," he said, adding, "People would remember her for her contribution to the society."

Shakhawat Hossain Mojumder, assistant general manager (audit) of PKSF, said, "She contributed to establish dignity of people throughout her life," he said.

Abdul Karim, former principal secretary; Parvin Mahmud FCA, member of Ghashful executive committee; Jhuma Rahman, daughter of Shamsunnahar; and Jerin Mahmud Hossain and Sadia Rahman, grandchildren of Shamsunnahar; spoke among others.
