No movie on Jaha Alam: HC

The High Court yesterday enforced a ban on any movie or drama on the life of Jaha Alam, who was wrongly imprisoned for three years due to an identity mix-up.

The bench of Justice MD Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice KM Hafizul Alam passed the order yesterday, in response to a writ petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission.

The information secretary and cultural affairs secretary have been ordered to make sure that no film or drama is made on Jaha Alam.

The injunction will remain till the disposal of a rule issued by another High Court bench in January this year, ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star.

Citing the petition, he said the case regarding Jaha Alam is pending with the High Court, so no film can be made on the sub-judice matter.

Two newspapers recently reported that a filmmaker is planning to make a film based on Jaha Alam's life.

Following the reports, ACC submitted the petition seeking a ban on making films on Jaha Alam.

Previously, ACC denied shouldering responsibility for the imprisonment of Alam, who was wrongly placed behind bars in a case filed by the state agency.
