No arrest yet over killing of woman in moving bus

Police could neither identify the vehicle nor arrest any of the culprits who allegedly killed a woman in a moving bus after pushing her father off the vehicle in Ashulia two days back.

They are also unsure about what might be the motive behind the murder.

Javed Masud, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Ashulia Police Station, said, “We are working on three to four suspected buses. Apart from this, there is no update at the moment.”

According to police and victim family, five to six people including the driver killed Jarina Khatun, 45, after pushing her father Ali Akbar, 75, out of the bus on Friday night. Before that, both were assaulted.

Jarina along with her father came to Ashulia from Sirajganj to visit her daughter Rozina. Around 5:00pm on Friday, they boarded a Tangail-bound bus to go back home.

Rozina's husband Nurul Islam, who saw them off, said he called Ali by phone around 9:00pm and learnt that the father and daughter were beaten up inside the bus and Ali was pushed out of the bus in Moragang area. Jarina's body was found by the highway in the area.

OC Javed said, “If Ali could say the name of the bus service, it would be easy to track the culprits.”

Meanwhile, the case has been handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) for investigation, according to a notification of the Police Headquarters yesterday.
