Newborn stolen from clinic, mother claims

A newborn was allegedly stolen by miscreants from Marie Stopes Clinic at Basail area in Narsingdi town on Wednesday.

Sakhina Begum, wife of Shah Alam and a resident of Kumradi village under Shibpur upazila, was admitted at Marie Stopes Clinic on Saturday noon.

Sakhina gave birth to the baby girl on Sunday morning.

On Wednesday, she went to the bathroom to wash her hands after having a meal when an unidentified woman took her baby and fled the scene, Sakhina claimed.

Police have visited the spot and are now trying to rescue the baby.

Imran Hassan, sub-inspector of Narsingdi Sadar Model Police Station, said that the newborn’s mother and the clinic authorities are blaming each other over the incident.

Legal action will be taken after thoroughly investigating the matter.
