New committee of Gonoforum named

Gonoforum, the leading partner of Jatiya Oikya Front, yesterday announced its 111-member fresh committee, electing Dr Kamal Hossain as its president and Reza Kibria -- son of late Awami League leader and finance minister AMS Kibria -- as its general secretary.

Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, the new executive president of the party, announced the committee for 2019 at a press conference at Jatiya Press Club.

Mostafa Mohsin Montu, who was the party’s previous general secretary, was made first member of the central committee.

Former state minister for information Prof Abu Sayeed is also executive president, along with Subrata Chowdhury.

The party’s much-talked-about MP Mokabbir Khan, who was served a show-cause for taking oath as lawmaker of Sylhet-2, has been included as a presidium member of the party. 

Subrata said the new committee has been formed following their party’s special council held on April 26.

In his speech, Dr Kamal Hossain said people from every part of the country should be united under the opposition banner to carry out a movement. “The new committee will work for restoration of democracy, and the movement will be a success with support of people,” he said.

Earlier on April 26, the fifth national council of Gonoforum was held at Mohanagar Natya Mancha. The previous council of Gonoforum was held on December 10, 2011.
