Mountaineer Reshma’s death: Microbus driver gives confessional statement

The driver of a microbus today gave a confessional statement in the case filed over the hit-and-run accident that left mountaineer Reshma Nahar Ratna dead in Dhaka on August 7.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Debdas Chandra Adhikary recorded arrestee SM Darus Salam's confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure today.

Earlier, Sub-Inspector Mubarak Hossain of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station, also investigation officer of the case, had produced Salam before the magistrate today.

Details of the confessional statement could not be known immediately.

After recording Salam's statement, the magistrate sent him to jail.

Police arrested Salam on August 26 from the capital's Shahjahanpur area and seized a Toyota microbus.

Earlier, police on August 18 arrested one Md Nayem, also a microbus driver, from Kafrul's Ibrahimpur area in the capital and seized a black HiAce microbus in connection with Reshma's death.

Nayem is now behind bars.

On August 7, Reshma was killed after the microbus hit her bicycle on Lake Road near the Jatiya Sangsad in the capital.

Pedestrians took her to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.

Later, a case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in this regard.
