Mobile court comes under attack in Ctg

A vehicle of a Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) magistrate was vandalised and two persons including a police official were injured yesterday, when a mo-bile court came under attack in Banglabazar of Bayzid area during an eviction drive yesterday evening.

Five people were detained from the spot, said police.

Injured Assistant Sub-inspector Mojibur Rahman was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, said ASI Shilbrata Barua of CMCH police outpost.

CCC Executive Magistrate Afia Akhter -- who led the drive -- said the mobile court went to Banglabazar area around 3pm where hawkers had encroached footpaths in front of BSRM factory, obstructing public movement.

Inspector (Investigation) Pritom Sarkar of Bayzid Bostami Police Station said a group of people including hawkers swooped on the mobile court when the eviction drive started.

Attackers also vandalised the magistrate’s car, said Priton. Police rushed to the spot and detained five persons in this connection.

Afia said the attackers swopped on them “under shelter of a local political leader”. However, she did not disclose the name of the leader.

Inspector Pritom said legal measures were underway, and police were conducting drive to arrest other attackers.
