MJF to organise ‘harmony festival’

With an aim to battle radicalisation and extremism in the context of Bangladesh, Manusher Jonno Foundation’s (MJF) Sampreeti project will organise a solidarity festival on July 25-26.

The announcement came at a press conference in Jatiya Press Club yesterday. Project Director Shahriar Mannan, Deputy Project Manager Maniruzzaman, and Crosswalk Communications Ltd Managing Director MA Maruf was present at the press conference.

The two-day long festival will take place at Celebrity Hall of Bangabandhu International Conference Center. Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Mia will be present as chief guest at the programme with MJF Executive Director Shaheen Anam in the chair, said a press release.

In order to promote understanding and harmony in the community, there will be roundtable discussions among teachers and students of different schools and madrasas on the first day. On the second day, law enforcement officials and media personnel will engage in separate roundtable sessions.

There will be exhibitions and concerts on both days. The festival is open for all.

Speaking at the press conference,  Shahriar Mannan said, “MJF has been working in line with the sustainable development goals, and Sampreeti (Social Action and Mobilisation for Prevention of Radicalisation and Extremism through Enhanced and Targeted Interventions) is a project under the organisation’s youth and social solidarity initiative.”

The project is currently operating in six districts of Dhaka division, and it works to create tolerance among college, university, and madrasa students, added the press release.
