Missing Swechchha-sebak League leader found dead

Police recovered the body of a union level Swechchhasebak League leader from Dhaleshwari River in Savar's Fulbaria area early Sunday.

The deceased was Humayun Kabir, 40, vice-president of Tetuljhora union unit of Swechchhasebak League.

Kabir had gone missing on Thursday evening, police said quoting family members. He was allegedly picked up by local criminals led by one Parvez. Police detained two persons once the incident was reported.

The two revealed that Humayun was taken to an abandoned embankment of Dhaleshwari River and hacked with a sharp weapon.  They then rented a trawler and dumped Humayun in the middle of the river.

A team of firefighters from Savar conducted a drive to find Humayun's body all weekend, but to no avail.

Later on Sunday morning, locals found his body floating on the river and informed police.

AFM Sayeed, officer in-charge of Savar Model Police Station, said the body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The victim's brother filed a murder case in this regard and two people have been shown arrested.
