Militant suspect placed on 2-day remand

A suspected operative of banned militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir was placed on a two-day remand yesterday by a Chattogram court.

The court of Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Salem Md Noman placed Amiruzzaman Parvez, 39, on remand after Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) produced him before the court seeking 10 days' remand, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC, Prosecution) Nirmalendu Bikash Chawkrabarty.

Earlier, on August 30, Amiruzzaman was arrested by Rab in Kazir Dewri area of Chattogram with jihadist books and leaflets and a case was filed with Kotwali Police Station against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Police also arrested Amiruzzaman several years ago.
