Masud Bin Momen new foreign secy

Masud Bin Momen has been made foreign secretary of Bangladesh as his predecessor M Shahidul Haque, the country’s longest-serving foreign secretary, has gone on retirement.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a notification yesterday in this regard.

Masud previously served as secretary (Asia and Pacific) at the foreign ministry, after serving as permanent representative of Bangladesh at the United Nations.

He also previously served as Bangladesh’s ambassador to Japan and Italy.

Masud obtained his bachelor’s degree in economics from Dhaka University. He holds a master’s degree in economics from the same university and another master’s in international relations from Tufts University in the United States. He is a career diplomat from BCS batch of 1985.

From 1998 to 2001, he was director-in-charge of the Foreign Ministry’s United Nations Wing and Foreign Secretary’s Office in Dhaka.

He served as director of poverty alleviation at Saarc Secretariat in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 2001-04.

After that, he was deputy commissioner at Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, India, from 2004-06.

Masud Momen had served as permanent representative to Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP) and International Fund for Agricultural Development.
