Trader shot dead by robbers in Ashulia

Robbers shot a man to death and looted valuables from his house in Ashulia of Savar outside the capital early yesterday.

The man -- Abul Sarkar, aged around 45 -- was a land businessman. His brother Mokbul Sarkar, 30, was injured in the attack.

Around 12 masked robbers with arms and lethal weapons stormed into the house by cutting the grille of the gate around 3:00am, said Mokbul.

They looted valuables, including cash, jewellery and a licenced shotgun, at gun point, he said.

At one stage, they attempted to leave the scene sensing presence of locals. Abul tried to catch one of the robbers when another one shot him in the abdomen, said Mokbul.

Mokbul filed a case with Ashulia Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Javed Masud said they are investigating the incident.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy, he added.
