Man sentenced to 30 years for possessing heroin

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced a man to 30 years in jail for possessing 90 grams of heroin in November 2016.

Judge Shaikh Golam Mahbub of the Special Judge Court-6 of Dhaka gave the sentence in presence of the convict, Md Kamal.

The judge further fined him Tk 10,000, in default of which he will have to suffer three more months in jail.

The court acquitted two others -- Md Sohel and Md Shahin -- as the charges brought against them were not proven.

According to the prosecution, a team of police went to Bhasantek slum on November 20, 2016 and arrested Kamal with 90gm heroin and two others.

A case under Narcotics Control Act was filed against the three with Bhasantek police. Police pressed charges against them on December 30 the same year, and the court framed the charges on October 29 of 2017.
