Man sent to jail over rape of 8-year-old

A Mymensingh court yesterday sent a man to jail over the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Tarakanda upazila of Mymensingh. He was arrested on Saturday.

The arrestee is Badir Uddin (65), said OC Abul Khayer of Tarakanda Police Station. On Monday, the victim’s mother lodged a case, accusing Badir.

Quoting the case statement, the OC said on January 2, Badir, a father of four, lured the first-grader to his house with candy and raped her.

Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued her but Badir fled the scene, he said.

Influential locals tried to downplay the incident, but police arrested him from Phulpur upazila, he said.

The girl was sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for tests yesterday, the OC informed.
