Man rescued after 13 days of abduction

Police yesterday rescued a man who was abducted from Jhenidah post office intersection of the town on August 26.

He was rescued from a building of NGO Srizony at Pabhati village of the district town.

The abductee is Arif Hossain, 29, son of Abdul Kader of Gourinathpur village under Moheshpur upazila. Arif is an area manager of Malaysia-based Medico group.

Police also arrested Lavlu Hossain, cousin of Srizony director Dr M Harun, and Srizony employee Md Tohiduzzaman.

Arif claimed that he was abducted by Dr Harun's son Tamim Hossain, and his accomplices, over an issue of being involved in a deal concerning a large sum of money. He said he was tortured during his abduction, and was forced to sign a blank stamp.

Officer-in-Charge Imdadul Haque Sheikh of sadar police station said, Arif introduced one Nasir with Dr Harun, who gave money to some foreigners through Nasir, to bring a project for Srizony. After the foreigners fled, Harun's men picked up Arif.

ASP Milu Mia Biswas of Jhenidah said injured Arif has been admitted to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital for treatment. A case will be filed against Dr Harun and his son Tamim, and action will be taken against them after thorough investigation.

On-duty doctor Rubina Parvin of Jhenidah Sadar Hospital said Arif bears marks of injury in his left leg.

Dr Harun, director of Srizony, said a handsome amount was given to Nasir and his partners, and admitted that the victim was kept in his NGO's office. “Arif was brought to my office but he was not tortured,” he said.
