Man lynched in Savar over trespassing

A mob beat a man to death on suspicion of being a thief in Ashulia of Savar yesterday.

Rabindra Nath 25, from Dewan Shaipara area in Birulia of Savar, died on the spot, said police.

Locals caught him while he along with several of his accomplices was trying to enter the house of one Gazi Mondal in nearby Gouripur area around 5am, said Javed Masud, inspector (investigation) of Ashulia Police Station.

The other suspects managed to escape, said the inspector.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka for autopsy, he added.

“We are investigating the incident,” said Inspector Masud.

Filing of a case was underway till filing of the report last evening.
