Man kills wife, daughter in Mymensingh

A man allegedly strangled his wife and a daughter over “family feud” in Khagdohor Ghonti area of Mymensingh city today.

The victims were identified as Ruma Akter, 38, wife of Shafiqul Islam Shaheen and their daughter Nafia Akter, 13, a fourth grader, reports our Mymensingh correspondent.

Quoting locals, Khandaker Shaker Ahmed, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station, said Shaheen, 47, a money lender and a land broker, strangled Ruma and Mafia at his house around 5:30pm.

When Shaheen's elder daughter Sadia Alter Labonya, 22, a married girl, came to visit her parents in the evening, she found her mother and sister dead in the house.

When she started screaming, her father Shaheen also attempted to strangle her, said the OC.

When neighbours came to the spot, Shaheen fled the scene.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Labonya was also admitted to the hospital.

Police suspected that Shaheen killed his wife and daughter over family feud. But police could not say immediately about the actual cause behind the killings.

Shaheen, who went into hiding since the incident, could not be arrested yet.
