Man gets life term for raping neighbour

A Rangpur court yesterday handed down life imprisonment to a man for raping his neighbour after abducting her in 2008.

Judge Md Rokonuzzaman of Woman and Children Repression Prevention court passed the sentence, and a fine of Tk 1 lakh, said Public Prosecutor Zahangir Hossain Tuhin.

According to the case statement, in 2008, accused Biswajit Chandra Ripon kidnapped the victim and raped her at a secluded place in Gangachara upazila.

The woman filed a rape case in this regard. Ripon has been on the run since then, said Prosecutor Zahangir, adding that he has appealed to police to arrest the convict as soon as possible.
