Man dies in river vessel fire

A man was killed and two others were injured as a fire broke out in a lighter vessel anchored at Bijoynagar Quay of Karnaphuli river early yesterday, police said.

The deceased is Saiful Islam, 30, a labourer of the vessel, said Utpal Barua, officer-in-charge (OC) of Patenga Police Station.

The fire originated at 11:00pm yesterday from a gas stove on the vessel, killing Saiful on the spot and injuring two others, said OC Utpal.

The locals doused the blaze and rushed the injured workers to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
