Man to die for rape, murder of child

A Chattogram court yesterday sentenced a man to death, for raping a seven-year-old child before killing her in Brahmanbaria two and half years ago.

Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal Judge Abdul Halim handed down the verdict against Arshadur Rahman, said Public Prosecutor (PP) Advocate Ayub Khan, adding that the court also fined him Tk 1 lakh. Arshadur was present in the court when the verdict was delivered.

According to the case statement, Arshadur followed the child while she was returning home after buying bangles from his shop at a village fair. He took her to a jungle, raped and later strangled her to death.

Police recovered the body the next morning, following which the girl’s father filed a case. Later, a Brahmanbaria court framed charge against Arshadur after police pressed charges against him. The case was transferred to Chattogram Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal in January 2018.

MAN GETS LIFE IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING GIRL

Another Chattogram court yesterday sentenced a man to life-term imprisonment for violating a girl in Banshkhali upazila in 2014.

PP Advocate Jesmin Akhter said Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Judge Mashiur Rahman passed the order. The tribunal also fined him Tk 50,000, she added.

According to case statement, Eliash raped the 13-year-old near her house on November 16, 2014. Victim’s uncle filed the case with Banshkhali Police Station on November 24.
