Man arrested on charge of raping garment worker

Police arrested a man on charge of raping a garment worker from Fatullah yesterday.

The arrestee is Rafiqul Islam Apu, 30, a dentist residing in the same area.

Quoting victim’s family members, police said Rafiqul was introduced to the girl when she and her mother visited his chamber for dental treatment around three weeks ago.

Following that, the arrestee and the girl maintained communication. At one stage, he proposed to marry her and visited her residence multiple times.

On Saturday, he called the girl to his chamber and then raped her, said Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Police Station.

During primary interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he had communicated with the girl and visited her residence but denied raping her.

The victim’s mother filed a rape case against Rafiqul, said the OC. The girl was referred to Narayanganj General Hospital for medical examinations.
