‘Make local authorities’ permission mandatory’

Permission from the local authorities should be mandatory to stop unplanned development in rural areas, said Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tazul Islam yesterday.

Like towns, infrastructures of villages also need to be constructed in a planned way for sustainable development, he said while addressing a virtual meeting titled "Mayor Dialogue: Safe, Sustainable and Inclusive City" organised by Save the Children and Bangladesh Institute of Planners.

Adil Mohammad Khan, general secretary of BIP  moderated the discussion, participated by mayors of Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Chattogram, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Mymensingh cities.
