Mainul Hosein undergoes health check-up

The medical check-up of Barrister Mainul Hosein was conducted yesterday at Rangpur Medical College Hospital in presence of Rangpur jail authorities, following a High Court order issued on Thursday.

Mainul, an adviser to a previous caretaker government, was brought to the hospital at 9:00am, said Md Amzad Hossain, jailer of Rangpur jail. After check-up, Mainul was taken back to jail at 10:30am, he added.

His health report will be placed before the High Court bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir today.

On November 2, Mainul's wife Saju Hossain filed two writ petitions seeking an HC order to admit Mainul to a specialised hospital in Dhaka, and also challenging the government's “failure” and “inaction” to provide adequate security to him.

Mainul was brought to Rangpur on November 3 after he was arrested on October 22 in a case filed for defaming journalist Masuda Bhatti during a television talk-show.
