Magistrate imposter held in capital

Police yesterday arrested a magistrate impersonator from the office of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka over fraudulence.

The arrestee was identified as Jewel Rana alias Sohel, 27, hailing from Tangail.

Around 11am on the day, Jewel went to the CMM's office to lobby for a case. He introduced himself as a magistrate, but the CMM wanted to check his credentials out of suspicion.

When Jewel showed his papers, the CMM found out that those were forged. He then handed Jewel over to police, said Moudud Howlader, officer-in charge (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station. A case was filed in this regard, he added.

The details regarding as to why Jewel impersonated a magistrate were not available.
