Madrasa ransacked over rape allegation against teacher

Locals ransacked a madrasa and the house of its teacher in Gazipur yesterday, accusing him of raping a boy.

Since the incident, the teacher along with his family members has been on the run, said the protesters.

The man alone used to run the tin-roofed madrasa, consisting of two rooms, in Sreepur area. The madrasa was near his residence in the area.

He used to give lessons to around 15 to 20 students, according to locals.

On Saturday evening, he took the nine-year-old to one of the rooms and raped him, said Saman Uddin Sadiq, a resident of the area.

The boy disclosed the incident to several people after he had come out of the madrasa, said Abul Kalam, another resident.

Many locals also said there have been allegations against the teacher of raping his students.

Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jabedul Islam said they were yet to get any complaint till last evening.

On information from locals, they rushed to the spot and did not find the teacher, said the police official.

The teacher could not be reached over the phone despite repeated attempts.
