Madrasa education bill passed

The Parliament yesterday passed "Bangladesh Madrasa Education Board Bill, 2020" to replace a 1978 ordinance in this regard.

Education Minister Dipu Moni placed the bill which was passed by voice vote.

According to Article 28 of the new law, there will be (legal) protection for activities of madrasa education since 1978.The activities would be considered under it, and no activities of the past can be challenged as illegal. Important changes in the bill say board employees were declared as public servants and their retirement age fixed at 60 years like all other education boards.

In December, the cabinet approved the bill in principle bringing some amendments to the Madrasa Education Ordinance, 1978 as the SC declared all laws made during military regimes illegal.
