Death of Schoolboy

Locals demand arrest of culprits

Protesting the death of a schoolboy who was brutally knifed, locals blocked Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Ishwarganj upazila of Mymensingh, demanding immediate arrest of the culprits.

Locals blocked the road for three hours, from 11am to 2pm, creating serious traffic congestion. They also brought out a procession and formed a human chain to press home their demand.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Md Jahidul Islam, 15, a Secondary School Certificate examinee, was stabbed by masked miscreants in Ishwarganj upazila around 9:45am on Tuesday. He later succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday.

Deceased’s mother Noor Jahan lodged a case with the police station, accusing 11 persons. Ex-joint secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Ishwarganj Degree College unit Moshiur Rahman Kanchan was named as the prime accused, the OC informed.

Police arrested Kanchan for his alleged involvement in the killing. He was produced before a Mymensingh court with a five-day remand prayer on Wednesday afternoon.

No hearing was held on the remand prayer and the court sent him to jail. Drives are underway to arrest the other accused, the OC said.
